Aggression/Violence Intervention & Management

Michael Dyson has over twelve years experience in training police and private citizens on how to deal with aggressive and violent people and the lawful use of force. He has researched and prepared several précis on the subject and presented them to clients.
He has consulted to private and government agencies and assisted in developing policies on how to deal with aggressive and violent people. He has participated in a research project conducted by the Australian Institute of Criminology on the subject of predicting criminal violence.
He has given evidence in legal proceedings where he has been required to explain, justify, and give opinion on the level of force and appropriate methods of dealing with aggressive people. The following are examples:
* Justifying violent arrests before Magistrates
* Justifying the lawful use of lethal force against a murder suspect before the Supreme Court
* Justifying his orders and instructions for Police Special Operations Tactics in the “Moonah Raid” before the Ombudsman
* Justifying to the State Coroner, a Commission of Inquiry and several other inquiries his orders and instructions given to the Police Special Operations in an operation that resulted in the fatal shooting of a suspect
* Justifying to Tasmania Police Internal Investigations Unit his forceful arrest of a person he found attempting to rape a female
* Justifying to Tasmania Police Internal Investigations Unit the use of a firearm to apprehend a dangerous suspect
* He has been instructed by solicitors in the past to review people’s actions and to provide opinion about self defence options for people charged with assault and grievous bodily harm.
* He conducts security audits and forensic security surveys for organisations and law firms to provide advice on policy and procedures to deal with workplace violence.
* He has never been found guilty of the excessive use of force despite being involved in countless violent encounters over the past 31 years as a police officer and security agent.
Using models and templates, Michael combines his knowledge, training, and experience to review the circumstances involved in situations where self defence or the use of force has been applied to any person. He is able to identify eight varieties of human aggression and clearly demonstrate the reasonable options for defence that are available to any individual under the circumstances that existed at the time.
We provide investigative assistance to plaintiffs and defendants involved in legal action where self defence or the use of force is an issue.
